Beware; for I am fearless, and therefore powerful. Mary Shelley, Frankenstein. This is a original 1818 text edition of Frankenstein. Frankenstein is a novel written by English author Mary Shelley about eccentric scientist Victor Frankenstein, who creates a grotesque creature in an unorthodox scientific experiment.

Shelley started writing the story when she was eighteen, and the novel was published when she was twenty. Shelley had travelled through Europe in 1814, journeying along the river Rhine in Germany with a stop in Gernsheim which is just 17 km (10 mi) away from Frankenstein Castle, where two centuries before an alchemist was engaged in experiments.

Later, she traveled in the region of Geneva (Switzerland)where much of the story takes placeand the topics of galvanism and other similar occult ideas were themes of conversation among her companions, particularly her lover and future husband, Percy Shelley.

Mary, Percy, Lord Byron, and John Polidori decided to have a competition to see who could write the best horror story. Since publication of the novel, the name “Frankenstein” is often used to refer to the monster itself, as is done in the stage adaptation by Peggy Webling.

By the comforts of a blazing fireplace on a cold Christmas Eve night, guests at a holiday party share stories of phantoms and ghosts of Christmases past. Yet one guest delivers a tale of sheer fright for which no one listening was prepared.

As the story goes, after losing both parents, a young boy and girl move into a large wooded estate to be held under the care of their uncle. Wanting nothing to do with raising the children, the uncle hires a young governess to attend to their care.

Yet the governess never could have anticipated the horrors that await her discovery. When it becomes evident that the children have some supernatural connection with a deceased former governess and her lover, the young governess finds herself scrambling to regain control of two children slipping away from her grasp.

This classic horror tale is now a hit hollywood movie called “The Turning” starring Finn Wolfhard from Stranger Things.

A Christmas Carol is a novella by English author Charles Dickens. It was first published by Chapman & Hall on 19 December 1843. Carol tells the story of a bitter old miser named Ebenezer Scrooge and his transformation resulting from a supernatural visit by the ghost of his former business partner Jacob Marley and the Ghosts of Christmases Past, Present and Yet to Come.

The novella met with instant success and critical acclaim. The book was written and published in early Victorian era Britain, a period when there was strong nostalgia for old Christmas traditions together with the introduction of new customs, such as Christmas trees and greeting cards.

Dickens’ sources for the tale appear to be many and varied, but are, principally, the humiliating experiences of his childhood, his sympathy for the poor, and various Christmas stories and fairy tales

“A new and wholly fresh mother lode of ‘true weird tales,’ … The only real comparisons to Shadow Book’s treasure trove of bizarre stories, full of humour, horror, suspense, magic and mystery, are Japan’s Kwaidan, the Thousand and One Nights, and most certainly Pu Sung-ling’s Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio.” Fortean Times “Written more than two centuries ago, Ji Yun’s ‘true weird stories’ prove that humanity’s greatest fears are timeless.” Rue MorgueImagine if H.P.

Lovecraft were Chinese and his tales were true. Or if a national, political figure like Benjamin Franklin was also a paranormal investigatorone who wrote up his investigations with a chilling, story-telling flair that reads like a combination of Italo Calvino, Lafcadio Hearn, and Zhuangzi.

In China, at roughly the same time that Franklin was filling the sky with electrified kites, a figure existed who was a little bit of both these things. He was Special Advisor to the emperor of China, Head of the Department of War, Imperial Librarian, and one of the most celebrated scholars and poets of his time.

Nobody will survive the new plague! Angels: they’re among us.I should know. There’s one trapped inside of me. But the image you probably have of these helpers of God is wrong, I guarantee it. They are all maniacal assholes.

Eighteen-year-old Anna awakens, naked and afraid, tied to a chair in a dark room. Across from her sits a woman who is her spitting image. With tears in her eyes, the woman puts a gun against her head and kills herself.

Anna is not found until days later and in a state of hypothermia, moments from dying. But when she wakes in the hospital, she finds that the police don’t see her as a victim, but as a suspect. It’s the beginning of a series of catastrophic events in which she has no choice but to play a part.

Is this the end of humanity? Eden (nominated for a Bastaard Fantasy Award) is a post-apocalyptic suspense novel.
